General Cherry is a Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned systems that grew out of a volunteer initiative and the resistance movement in temporarily occupied territories. The brand’s name comes from Hnyla Chereshnya, a Melitopol-based Telegram channel that united members of the Ukrainian underground and countered enemy propaganda during the full-scale invasion. Today the company runs its own production and R&D team, works closely with military units, incorporates frontline feedback, and builds technological solutions to strengthen Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
Following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, a team based in Zaporizhzhia launched a volunteer initiative.
Its primary focus was rapidly supplying Ukrainian service members with vehicles, protective gear, equipment, and other essential support.
Through continuous engagement with frontline units, the team developed a clear understanding of their most urgent operational needs. This experience ultimately led to the idea of producing its own unmanned systems.
Yaroslav Hryshyn, Stanislav Hryshyn, Rudolf Akopian, and their team launched the production of FPV drones under the General Cherry brand.
The company’s name is connected to Hnyla Chereshnia, a well-known Telegram channel from the Zaporizhzhia region that helped coordinate intelligence activities during the early stages of the full-scale invasion.
The channel’s administrators used the call signs General Cherry and Soldier Onion. They led a network of military personnel, volunteers, and resistance members operating in the occupied areas of the Zaporizhzhia region, including Melitopol, a city known for its exceptionally sweet cherries.
The resistance network led by General Cherry became a source of fear and frustration for the occupying forces. Today, General Cherry drones carry that mission forward.
The first pilot batches of drones were delivered to Ukrainian military units for testing under real combat conditions.
Based on frontline deployment and positive feedback from drone operators, the team made the decision to scale up production.
General Cherry evolved from a small volunteer-led operation into a full-scale manufacturer of serially produced FPV drones.
The company established dedicated engineering, manufacturing, and service support teams.
To increase operational resilience and reduce the risks posed by Russian strikes, production facilities were distributed across several regions of Ukraine.
The company increased its production capacity to tens of thousands of drones per month.
In addition to conventional FPV drones, General Cherry introduced several new product categories:
— fiber-optic FPV drones;
— AIR frontline interceptor drones;
— Bullet interceptor drones.
General Cherry systems were adopted by more than 150 units across Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces.
General Cherry became a leader in drone effectiveness based on data from Ukraine’s DELTA situational awareness system. For several consecutive months, the company ranked first in the number of e-Points awarded for confirmed successful engagements.
General Cherry continued to expand its manufacturing capacity while investing in new areas of research and development.
General Cherry successfully advanced through the first and second stages of the U.S. Drone Dominance Program, or DDP.
The company signed a memorandum of cooperation with Croatian technology company ORQA to support the development of manufacturing capabilities in Ukraine and Europe. General Cherry also signed a cooperation agreement with U.S.-based Wilcox to establish a joint manufacturing operation.
During this period, the company further expanded its product portfolio. In addition to FPV drones, interceptors, and fiber-optic systems, General Cherry introduced fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems: the Sweetheart strike platform and the Khmarynka reconnaissance platform.
The company’s manufacturing capacity exceeded 100,000 unmanned systems per month. Its portfolio now included FPV drones, interceptors, fiber-optic systems, and fixed-wing strike and reconnaissance platforms.
General Cherry is one of Ukraine’s largest manufacturers of unmanned systems.
The company’s products are used by more than 200 brigades across Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces.
